Safeguarding
Nothing is more important than safeguarding our pupils. St. Paul’s CE Junior school has a comprehensive Safeguarding and Child Protection Policy that details the steps and approaches we take to prevent harm to our pupils, protect them at all times and provide them with the best possible support.
As a school, we recognise the importance of providing an ethos and environment that will help children to feel safe, secure and respected; encourage them to talk openly; and enable them to feel confident that they will be listened to.
Safeguarding team
- Designated Safeguarding Lead: Jane Newby, Headteacher
- Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead: Sheona Lawrence, class teacher and SENCO
- Link Governor: Jackie Dower
All our staff and governors are trained in safeguarding and maintain their awareness with regular updates. Our pupils know that they can approach any member of staff and be sure of same careful, sympathetic and thorough attention to their concerns.
You can find our Safeguarding and Child Protection Policy, Overarching Safeguarding Statement, Online Safety Policy and Procedures and PSHE (inc RSE) Policy in full on the policies page.
1Decision PSHE
We follow the comprehensive 1Decision PSHE/RSE scheme of work. This scheme supports children in gaining understanding and knowledge about how to keep themselves safe. It gives children the confidence to speak out with the information they need to make safe and positive choices throughout their lives.

Kidsafe
Kidsafe is a programme of mental health and safeguarding teaching that is integrated into our PSHE/RSE curriculum. It provides serious lessons with a light touch, tailored to every age group and designed to give children an active role in keeping themselves safe. Topics include:
- Positive mental health
- Emotional wellbeing
- Understanding worried feelings
- Peer pressure
- Internet safety
- Bullying / Cyber bullying
- Keeping private places safe
- Parents / Carers arguing

External agencies
Where necessary we will work with the Local Authority Designated Officer (LADO) and external agencies to coordinate a response to safeguarding concerns or incidents whether within or outside the school.
